Ashley Young could not believe his luck as Everton drew Peterborough United in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Toffees will face the League One outfit at Goodison Park between 9th and 13th January, which could see the veteran’s son play against him in the 153-year-old competition.

His son, Tyler, made his first-team debut with Peterborough this season, and his father has already spoken about his “dream” to play on the same pitch before he retires, something that could now happen this season.

Taking to X on Monday (2 December), Young wrote: “WOW… Dreams might come true #GoosebumpsMoment #YoungVsYoung.”

Football truly is a wonderful sport when it brings people together and this potential story is just another instance of the “magic of the FA Cup” – the famous tagline for the competition.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Of course, the Toffees will be expected to fire multiple goals past the League One side, especially with them struggling in mid-table, but anything can happen in the tournament.

Obviously, there are a lot of scenarios that will need to fall into place for Young to live out his dream at Goodison Park but the potential is there for history to be written.

At 39 years of age, the right-back is surely coming to the end of his career soon and this would certainly be the most amazing moment to top off his time in the sport, seeing his son begin his career.

Given how important Young has been to the Toffees this season, playing 11 of their 13 Premier League matches so far, it is tough to predict whether Sean Dyche would risk him for this game.

However, if the chance came for him to come up against his own son in one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, it would be difficult for the manager to say no.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports pundit shared why Sean Dyche was “boiling” in the 4-0 loss to Manchester United.
