Newcastle United need to replace Callum Wilson in 2025.
Whether it is in January or the summer, a new striker needs to arrive at Newcastle United, with Callum Wilson’s Toon career on course to come to an end.
The 32-year-old is in the final year of his Toon contract, and Wilson knows his fate is down to the Newcastle owners. All he can do is stay fit and score goals, having recently returned from injury.
In truth, a St James’ Park departure feels likely for Wilson.

But Newcastle will need to replace him, which is why speculation over Evan Ferguson’s future at Brighton was very interesting last week.
Newcastle fans would love to sign Ferguson, who will be allowed to leave the Seagulls on loan when the January transfer window opens.
Signing Ferguson on loan with an option to buy would be ideal for Newcastle, but that might just be pure fantasy.
Why Newcastle will not sign Evan Ferguson in January
That is according to TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Ferguson’s future. He has explained why he does not think the Magpies will be in the conversation to sign the 20-year-old in January.

“He is going to be going out to get football, so could Newcastle offer him regular football? I do not think they can,” he said.
“And I do not think Brighton would loan him out to a rival. It is probably a non-starter, because it would be a straight loan deal. Brighton are not looking at a permanent deal.
“He would be perfect to replace Callum Wilson long-term, but Brighton are not going to be doing Newcastle any favours in January – even if Newcastle fans think they owe them one for Yankuba Minteh!”
Newcastle could look at possible free transfers
As Bailey says, Brighton have no intention of including an option or obligation to buy Ferguson in any loan deal, so a move to Newcastle United is not going to happen.
The Magpies need a long-term solution to their striker conundrum, and even if Ferguson was available on a permanent deal, he would not be cheap. The Telegraph have reported that he is valued at £60million.
That sums up why it will be so difficult for Newcastle to replace Wilson when the time comes. Signing players who score goals is not cheap.
One solution could be to utilise the free agent market, with various strikers currently in the final year of their contracts.
Newcastle are interested in Jonathan David from Lille, while Everton number nine Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a long-term Toon target.
They are both on course to become free agents in the summer, which will appeal to Newcastle United officials who are very wary of PSR.
