Chris Beesley did a “double-take” after Sean Dyche refused to admit Everton collapsed during the 4-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

While the Toffees did start well at Old Trafford on 1 December, creating multiple chances, Marcus Rashford’s eventual opener opened the floodgates, with him and Joshua Zirkzee grabbing braces.

Following the defeat, Dyche was asked whether his side “collapsed” after such a bright start but the manager, who is under considerable pressure at Goodison Park, refused to admit it.

Speaking via the Royal Blue YouTube channel [2 December], Beesley said: “It was a strange one. I was typing away and did a bit of a double-take after his response to that specific question.

“I think it was actually put to him, ‘If that wasn’t a collapse, what would you call it?’. Everton started well and it was an open game but they didn’t take their chances.

“After Jarrad Branthwaite deflected that first goal in, I’d say it was a pretty dramatic collapse.”

Is Sean Dyche delusional for his Everton comments post-Manchester United?

The pressure is clearly getting to the former Burnley man as the Toffees continue to slide further down the Premier League rankings, but he cannot hide from his comments made after the game.

Following the thumping at Old Trafford, the Blues are just two points above Wolves and Ipswich Town in the dropzone after 13 matches, with an incredibly difficult winter period ahead.

Everton must face Wolves, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest all before 2024 ends, and even the most optimistic of fans will not be expecting many points.

That could leave Dyche in an even worse position than the one he’s currently in, with the Toffees without a victory since the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town in mid-October.

Since that moment, Everton have lost twice and drawn three, scored once and conceded six, and fans are now getting fed up by proceedings at Goodison Park. The clock is ticking for Dyche.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports pundit shared why Sean Dyche was “boiling” in the 4-0 loss to Manchester United.
