Manchester United could reportedly be convinced to sanction the sale of Diogo Dalot, with Real Madrid prepared to submit an offer for him as early as the January transfer window.
Earlier today, a shock report from Spain claimed that Madrid are showing significant transfer interest in Dalot.
Madrid are in need of right-back reinforcements after Dani Carvajal suffered a serious injury a few weeks ago. Carlo Ancelotti has tried different players in that role but nothing has so far proven to be a sustainable solution.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to become a free agent in the summer, has been widely mentioned as Los Blancos’ top target.
However, with Liverpool flying high at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings under Arne Slot, there remains a strong chance the Merseyside outfit could convince the England international to extend his stay at Anfield.
It was claimed that Madrid have lined up Dalot as an alternative in case they fail in their efforts to secure Alexander-Arnolds services. The report added that United value Dalot at around £41million.
Pete Hall of i news has given an update on the situation, confirming that Madrid are indeed admirers of Dalot and are even plotting to make a £50m offer for him in January.
“i understands the Spanish giants will test whether new United manager Ruben Amorim really believes the 25-year-old Dalot fits into his new system with a £50m offer in January.”
“United sources insist Dalot is an important part of Amorim’s squad, while the player himself is not understood to be seeking a move away from Old Trafford.”
“However, Madrid are willing to make a move for Dalot now, rather than wait for Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool when his contract expires next summer. There is some urgency as their first choice full-back, Dani Carvajal, is out with a serious knee injury.”
Hall explains that Madrid are not the only club keeping tabs on Dalot. There are other unnamed parties that would also love to add him to their ranks.
It’s understood that United “could be tempted to sell” the Portugal international, with proceeds from his exit being used towards getting deals for the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda over the line.
i news add that Ruben Amorim and Dalot have already “formed a good relationship.”
Dalot has played 178 games for United and scooped up the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award last term.
He has four years remaining on his Old Trafford contract after putting pen to paper on a new deal in May 2023.
