Kyle Walker of Manchester City insists they won't give up in title fight

Kyle Walker has insisted Manchester City will not give up on winning the title.

But Walker was searingly honest in admitting that City’s performances have fallen below their own standards.

Pep Guardiola's reigning champions have fallen 11 points behind leaders Liverpool and a fifth successive title looks beyond City this season. But Walker was adamant they will not throw in the towel in an impassioned message to supporters on social media.

City defender Walker said: “We know our recent performances haven’t been up to the standard we expect and we’re aware it’s been tough. But we’ve been through these challenges before, together, and we’ll come through this one as well.

“It’s important that we all stay together as one club, Manchester City, through this tough spell. Your support whether in good times or the difficult moments means everything to us.

“We’ve won titles in the final games of the season, and we’ve made history with a record-breaking 100-point campaign, right down to the last kick. We’ve shown time and time again that we can rise to the challenge, and we will do so again, I promise you, we’ll fight until the very end.”

City keeper Stefan Ortega added: “I think they are 11 points in front, so first of all we have to win the game and start our run, but we are in December, and I learned, especially here in England, this season is really long and really tough.

“It's not the time to speak about any titles, but obviously we don't give up, because I think in my first season when we won the league, Arsenal were I think how many days on top? A bit more than 200.

“So we are able to win games in a row, but we have to start as quickly as possible, but I'm pretty sure we will bounce back.”
