Mohamed Salah is arguably the greatest player on the face of the planet right now. The Egyptian King is spearheading Liverpool's title charge in the Premier League and has been unstoppable in the Champions League as well. He's scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 13 Premier League games, and there isn't a team on the face of the planet that wouldn't do anything possible to get him in its team.
With all that said, why on earth would Liverpool only offer him a one-year contract? On Monday it was reported that Salah would be willing to sign a one-year contract extension to remain at the club, but that would be unbelievably insulting to the forward.
The fact Salah is very clearly desperate to stay at Anfield should be the biggest compliment FSG could get. Rarely does Liverpool sign a well-established world-beater. Links to Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham went nowhere, and rarely is the club linked with a blockbuster name with any real authenticity.

In this case, one of the best footballers in the world is actively telling the club he wants to stay. He's telling the world he wants to stay. This could not be a bigger open goal for FSG and Michael Edwards. Statistics be damned, pay him whatever he wants.
That's just one part of the problem, though. It seems Liverpool is reluctant to give him a long-term contract due to his age... seriously?! The man is the best forward in the Premier League and is on track to better his statistical output from last season.
Offering him a one-year contract is insulting, leaving one of the club's finest servants in recent memory sitting in limbo again. 'We love you, Mo... but not that much. Let's see whether we want a split in a year's time'. That doesn't seem like a true and appropriate reward for a man who could realistically be in Ballon d'Or contention in a year.

Mohamed Salah is open to signing a one-year contract, but he deserves so much more than that
Salah deserves to see out the rest of his career at Anfield. There's realistically no reason to move him on for financial reasons - Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world with huge revenue and turnover.
The sporting reasons don't justify giving only a 12-month extension either... so what's the thinking?
At risk of echoing Jamie Carragher's "give him his dough" quote- Salah has done enough for Liverpool to justify getting what he wants. It's time to get the blank contract out.
