FC Barcelona tracking exciting Orlando Pirates starlet

Spanish giants Barcelona are taking a look at Orlando Pirates to give one of their stars a shot at training with them.

Barcelona have taken notice of Orlando Pirates star Mofokeng

“There have been enquiries from Barcelona on Relebohile Mofokeng. The boy has been monitored by the coaches of the Barcelona B team with interest,” an insider told Soccer Laduma regarding the Orlando Pirates and Bafana prodigy.

“They have been following him and made approaches with some of their contacts in the PSL, including certain coaches they know closely, asking about the player.

“He is a player with the potential to play in some of the top leagues in Europe and the feedback has been positive on the enquiries made.”

Nkota is the ‘next Mofokeng’

Talented teenage winger Mohau Nkota bagged himself a brace as Pirates got themselves off to the perfect start in the Caf Champions League with a 2-1 win at Belouizdad. Nkota scored in the 5th and 27th minutes while Khanyisa Mayo pulled one back for the Algerian hosts. Relebohile Mofokeng, now a relative veteran at 20 years old, assisted both of Nkota’s strikes.

Trio still out for Orlando Pirates

Injured trio Olisa Ndah, Zakhele Lepasa and Goodman Mosele remain on the sidelines for Jose Riveiro’s side. However, seven players have returned to training. Next up for the Sea Robbers is a Caf Champions League clash with Al Ahly on Saturday 07 December. This follows their surprise defeat to Stellenbosch last time out in the Betway Premiership.

Upcoming Champions League fixtures

Jose Riveiro’s side will relish a home match against defending African champions Al Ahly on 07 December before rounding out 2024 with a trip to Côte d’Ivoire to face Stade D’Abidjan on the weekend of 13-15 December. Stade D’Abidjan visit Pirates on the weekend of 3-5 January 2025 before Belouizdad lands in Soweto for a meeting on the weekend of 10-12 January. Matchday 6 is arguably the toughest assignment of the entire group when Pirates meet Al Ahly in Egypt on the weekend of 17-19 January.

Would Mofokeng thrive at a club the size of FC Barcelona?
