Stunning claim suggests English 'mastermind' manager could replace Lopetegui at West Ham

West Ham United could be ready to make a managerial change if Julen Lopetegui fails to sort things out quickly.

It has been claimed that Julen Lopetegui has six games left to save his West Ham job, but I feel like that’s being overly generous.

If West Ham fail to beat either Leicester or Wolves, I have no doubt that Julen Lopetegui will be moved on from the London Stadium.

In my opinion, he should have been sacked already, and not just because of the terrible results he has overseen this season.

Lopetegui has failed to implement a clear playing style, and the Hammers still lack an obvious footballing identity, five months into his tenure.

Not. Good. Enough.

Let’s see what happens against Leicester and Wolves, but I firmly feel like the board are just prolonging our misery by keeping him at this stage.

As soon as a change is made, we can really kick on as a club, and one name being linked with us should get the fans really excited.

English manager could replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham

So it seems like Lopetegui’s time at the London Stadium could be coming to an end.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

The Spaniard is quite clearly a dead man walking.

If we lose to Leicester convincingly tonight, that may well be the tipping point for him.

And according to a report from The Guardian, the Hammers owners are already lining up replacements for Lopetegui.

Sergio Conceicao is one man who’s being considered to take over from the 58-year-old at West Ham.

However, he’s not the only one it seems.

Graham Potter is said to be on the Hammers’ radar as well.

The former Chelsea and Brighton boss has been heavily linked with the Hammers before, and he has been dubbed as the ‘obvious replacement for Lopetegui’.

Described as a managerial mastermind by talkSPORT, Potter is well-known for having one of the most fluid and flexible approaches to the game.

The 49-year-old has been known to use up to eight different systems throughout matches, making it incredibly difficult for his opponents to suss out what he’s trying to do.

The downside of this is that some players find his methods incredibly complicated.

It can take a long time to adjust to his footballing style, and only players with a high footballing IQ survive.

Have the Hammers fans got the stomach for a long rebuild? Are we prepared to give Potter at least a full season before judging him?

I think most of us would be, as long as we could see some genuine progress.

Graham Potter would bring West Ham a different style

The thing with Graham Potter is that the West Ham fans definitely would notice his clear and obvious footballing identity immediately.

The 49-year-old favours a possession-based playing style, with his players interchanging positions all over the pitch.

Potter insists on high levels of movement from his team, in order to create space for the man in possession of the football.

He is well-known for using a variety of different systems – 4-4-2, 3-4-3, 3-5-2 and 4-2-3-1 just to name a few.

I think Graham Potter would be able to take this current West Ham squad to another level entirely.

However, change wouldn’t happen overnight, so everyone will have to be patient if he does get the job at the London Stadium.

Unlike Lopetegui, Potter would make an immediate impact when it comes to playing style, that’s for sure.
