Is it set to be a busy January transfer window for Manchester City?

With the current winless run from Manchester City stretching to seven games with their 2-nil defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday, the need for reinforcements to arrive to strengthen City’s squad is clear. The world champions’ squad is beginning to look tired as the toll of a heavy workload looks to have caught up to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

The January transfer window is set to open next month and there looks to be several areas that need strengthening in Pep Guardiola’s squad. I believe there is a case for City to make several signings next month. Now a new report indicates that the world champions are currently sharing a similar line of thinking.

Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City have set their sights on making three signings next month. Furthermore, Rust and Jones report that City’s recent slump has forced a change of plans to City’s January transfer window strategy. As per their report, originally, City were planning on making only one signing. But now they report that Pep Guardiola and City’s hierarchy are now targeting adding up to three players. Lastly, the Givemesport report suggests that City will be targeting a midfielder, a left-back and a striker next month.

Manchester City looks set to begin their squad rebuild next month.

Based on Danny Rust and Dean Jones’s report it does seem that City’s rebuild is set to kick off next month. It is apparent that Pep Guardiola’s squad is on their last legs. A host of City’s experienced players do appear that they have gone on for one battle too many. Age, injury, and fatigue have decimated City’s squad this season. The need to add fresh legs and faces is clear to see. Now, it seems that the Manchester City hierarchy feels the same way.

If the report from Givemesport is correct it will be interesting to see who the champions could target next month. The need for a midfielder is obvious to see. The loss of Rodri for the season has been a savage blow for the world champions. Finding a player who can step into midfield appears to be City’s priority. Sami Mokbel has previously reported for the Daily Mail that Adam Wharton and Martin Zubimendi are two of Manchester City’s transfer targets. Although a move for Zubimendi appears most likely out of the two players mentioned.

The need to sign support for Erling Haaland is obvious to see. Haaland is Manchester City’s only striker and Pep Guardiola’s squad could do with adding another striker. But who that player could potentially be remains to be seen.

The other interesting part of Rust and Jones’ report is the fact that they report that Manchester City may look to add a left-back. In my opinion, they need a right-back more than a left-back, so it will be interesting to see if that proves to be the case next month.

But now it appears that Manchester City will look to add reinforcements to Pep Guardiola’s squad next month. They are desperately needed and that has been obvious for some time as Pep Guardiola’s squad has struggled with a heavy workload and injuries of late.
