Jason Tindall's input behind the scenes at Newcastle United has been hailed by Anthony Gordon after his ploy from a free-kick paid off at Selhurst Park.
The Toon assistant manager is regarded as the set-piece coach at United but the Magpies have struggled to net from bother corners and set-plays this season. But on Saturday, during the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Gordon moved away from the ball for a free-kick.
Instead, Lewis Hall rolled a pass to Sandro Tonali who picked out Gordon before the Scouser fired in from an angle with the ball crashing off Marc Guehi. Gordon quickly paid tribute to Tindall and said: "Yes it’s something we’ve worked on in training. Jason Tindall and the analysts deserve a lot of the credit. That was one if their set-ups. I just did the run and pass, to be fair."
Newcastle must now step up to the plate against Liverpool as the Magpies look to shake off their late disappointment against Crystal Palace. Gordon says that one of the take aways from the Palace game will be to focus harder when ahead with a slender lead.
He said: "The thing is with teams like Liverpool, Arsenal and City is if we do score, if we do go behind, we have got to understand that the game is not over. You just have to keep going right until the very end because those teams come and come again."
Liverpool will arrive on Tyneside with a strong lead at the top of the table and an excellent record at St James' Park. You'd have to trawl back to 2015 for the last victory over the Reds for Newcastle when a rare win for Steve McClaren as boss saw the black and whites triumph 2-0.
