Arsenal are reported to be in advanced talks with Roberto Olabe to become their new Sporting Director.

They are seeking a replacement for Edu who resigned last month and has already left the club after being placed on gardening leave.

Olabe, himself, has announced that he is leaving his current role with Real Sociedad, although contractually he might not be able to join the Gunners until the end of the season.

The 57 year old has been in charge of recruitment at the Basque club for eight years, but now seems set to leave that all behind him as he begins a new venture in North London Mikel Arteta who hails from the same part of Spain, is reported to be pushing heavily for his recruitment.

The Gunners have had several dealings with Olabe kin recent years, first with the loan deal that saw Kieran Tierney spend last season in La Liga, and then with the summer transfer of Spanish international Mikel Merino to the Emirates.
