Chelsea goalkeeper spotted training as an outfielder in build up to Southampton clash

The Chelsea players do not have much time to work on their game following their recent victory at the weekend.

The Blues are travelling down to the south coast to take on Southampton, who are currently rooted to the bottom of the table.

Enzo Maresca has installed an extremely positive vibe around the club at the moment. They will be looking for their third win in a row in all competitions on Wednesday.

It remains to be seen whether the manager decides to make too many changes to his team, with the game coming just three days after their resounding win over Aston Villa.

One position supporters would perhaps love to see a new face in is goalkeeper, after an unconvincing start to the season from Robert Sanchez.

Filip Jorgensen trains as an outfield player in Chelsea training

Filip Jorgensen has put in a strong case for a start between the sticks with his recent displays in Europe, although Maresca has remained faithful in Sanchez throughout the campaign.

Jorgensen’s role in training has taken on a seemingly different responsibility this week. The goalkeeper has been spotted on the club’s website working on his footwork as an outfield player during one of the drills.

Why Filip Jorgensen may have trained as an outfielder for Chelsea

Despite not starting in the Premier League as of yet for Chelsea, there is reportedly belief that Jorgensen is perfect for how Maresca’s system works.

This involves being able to work seemlessly with the ball at his feet, in situations where he may be pressed by opposition attackers with very little time to make a decision

Peter Crouch believes that Jorgensen has earned a Premier League start with his performances of late, although there were positive signs from Sanchez at the weekend.

Sanchez was even named in the statistical Team of the Week for his clean sheet against Villa at Stamford Bridge.
