Arsenal star confused by Kai Havertz criticism

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has shared that he is surprised that club teammate Kai Havertz came in for criticism for his earlier performances. The pair have been teammates at two London clubs, Chelsea and now Arsenal, playing 123 games together in total.

Jorginho joined the Gunners in January 2023 for a reported €11.3 million fee before Havertz followed his lead the following summer for a reported €75 million.

The Italian discussed his surprise at the early criticism Havertz had to endure during his first season at the Emirates on Rio Ferdinand presents.

"It’s crazy because he’s just an unbelievable player, At the beginning when people was hammering him, I was like, these people, what are they talking about? I was like, is this really happening? I can’t believe it. I was like, oh my days. And then actually I went to Kai a few times and I was like, Kai, don’t listen, forget about it," he said.

"You know what you can do it. This is crazy. And how much he helps the team, the way he plays. And for me, the big improvement he had since he came to Premier League is how tougher he’s getting every day. He’s getting tougher and tougher. And now he’s at this place that is unbelievable," Jorginho added.

The Italian midfielder concluded:

"The confidence he has, the confidence that he gives to the team as well. And he’s so clever. He puts his body always in the same, in the best positions. He always gives a solution and he finds solutions in situations that you don’t believe he’s going to come out of or he’s just, he’s a baller. He’s like a big one."

Havertz has played 80 games across competitions for Arsenal, scoring 23 times and providing eight assists.

"I think it might help. But we need to be ready for anything." Arsenal star tips Gunners to mount title challenge

Jorginho believes Arsenal have a chance at the Premier League title this season. The north London giants sit nine points behind league leaders Liverpool after 13 games.

The Italian midfielder believes the Gunner's previous title charges have given them the advantage in this season's race for the Premier League crown.

He told the press (via FotMob) after Arsenal's 5-2 win over West Ham United on Saturday, November 30:

"I think it might help. But we need to be ready for anything and trying to win in any context. We need to try and use our strength at home to win as much as possible."

Arsenal will face Manchester United on Wednesday, December 4, and will be keen to get a solid result to keep the pressure on Liverpool.
