Here we go again. Just when we thought we’d turned a corner, fresh off battering Manchester City no less, we’re dragged back to earth with a scrappy 1-1 draw at home to Fulham. And it wasn’t even the good kind of scrappy—this one felt like a hangover from all the excitement last week.
Brennan Johnson gave us something to cheer with a tidy volley in the 54th minute, courtesy of Timo Werner (who, credit where it’s due, seems to be settling in nicely). But, as Spurs fans, we know better than to get comfortable. Thirteen minutes later, Tom Cairney, fresh off the bench, smashed in an equaliser for Fulham before completely losing the plot and getting himself sent off for a studs-up lunge on Kulusevski. Classic VAR drama ensued, and Darren Bond finally pulled out the red card. Still, even with a man advantage, we couldn’t find the winner. Spursy, indeed.
“Missing Pieces, Same Story”
We’ve got to talk about the injuries and suspensions, because this squad’s held together with duct tape and hope right now. No Dominic Solanke (a sore post-Europa League outing), no Rodrigo Bentancur (serving his ban for that incident), and poor Gigi Vicario sidelined with a fractured ankle. Fraser Forster did his best impression of a brick wall, pulling off some stunning saves to keep us alive, but let’s not pretend he has Vicario’s passing chops—our build-up play was clunky at best.
And what happened to our top scorers? Son fluffed a sitter in the first minute, Maddison hit the post with a cheeky free-kick, and Kulusevski—benched until it was too late—couldn’t save the day. Ange’s rotations made sense on paper, but on the pitch, we looked disjointed.
“Fulham Drama Takes the Spotlight”
Fair play to Fulham; they came to play. Alex Iwobi caused havoc, nearly scoring twice, and Cairney—before his moment of madness—delivered a cracking finish to level things up. The drama surrounding Andreas Pereira, who was dropped after openly discussing a failed Marseille move, probably didn’t help them much, but you wouldn’t have guessed it from their performance.
And so, we’re left ruing another missed opportunity. Seventh place, just a point ahead of Fulham in 10th. Top four? Well, let’s say it’s more hopeful than realistic right now. But hey, being a Spurs fan isn’t about smooth sailing—it’s about enduring the chaos and still daring to dream. Bring on the next heartache.
