West Ham’s [Lucas Paqueta](https://www.claretandhugh.info/lucas-paqueta-bio/) will no longer give evidence today to the Brazilian Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting.
Previous reports claimed he would need to travel to the capital of Brazil in person to attend the hearing and therefore miss the crucial away game. A senior club source told [Claret and Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/claret-and-hugh-bio/) yesterday that was never the case and it was always scheduled to be via video link.
His lawyers previously argued against his summons due to the ongoing FA charges against him. His representatives claimed the Brazilian hearing could harm his chances of a fair FA hearing as he bids to give his name. The outcome of the Brazilian CPI hearing is due in January when online betting is due to become regulated, while the FA hearing outcome is not expected until March next year.
The latest update surprised the club, which had expected him to give evidence remotely and be available in the evening to play against Leicester City.
