Alan Shearer names ‘crucial Nottingham Forest star in Premier League Team of the Week - it’s…

It was once again a positive afternoon for Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The Reds despatched the Premier League’s newest plucky underdogs Ipswich Town to claim a fourth win from six games.

Forest sit sixth in the Premier League table and now face back-to-back visits to Manchester to play City and United in quick succession.

Chris Wood scored the game’s only goal against Ipswich from the penalty spot, with Jota Silva getting stick for the way in which he won the penalty.

Wood has now equalled the record of 24 goals in the Premier League set previously by Bryan Roy and he looks nailed on to score even more.

There were a number of solid if unspectacular performances on Saturday with Forest getting the job done with a minimal degree of fuss.

Alan Shearer hails Nottingham Forest star Matz Sels

The Belgian goalkeeper is enjoying a really successful first full season in England with Forest.

He was predicted to be a stop-gap for the second half of 2023/24 when he checked in from Strasbourg on transfer deadline day at the start of the year.

But, he’s kicked on and in October, Joe Hart raved about Sels after some heroics against Chelsea.

Now, he’s in the limelight again and after a fifth clean sheet of the campaign against Ipswich, Sels was named in the Premier League Team of the Week by Shearer.

He said: “Made a couple of crucial saves against Ipswich to keep his fifth clean sheet of the season.”

Sels has proved himself as the Forest number one

It does feel like every tiny mistake that Sels makes, some fans clamour for the untested Carlos Miguel to come into the team.

However, that doesn’t feel like happening any time soon.

Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has placed his faith in Sels and he looks firmly established as the number one stopper right now.

The 32-year-old is an experienced figure between the posts for Forest and he looks considerably improved behind a more structured defensive unit.

At £5 million, Sels is looking like a real steal for Forest and it’s about time that fans got used to the idea of him being the number one for the foreseeable.
