Newcastle confirm Isak injury latest ahead of Liverpool game

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has confirmed the latest on striker Alexander Isak ahead of Wednesday's clash against Liverpool.

The striker came off during the first-half of Newcastle’s 1-1 draw away at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

An own goal from former Newcastle transfer target Marc Guehi had given the Magpies the lead but Daniel Munoz struck late to claim a vital point for the Eagles.

It has been a frustrating season for Howe on Tyneside with consistency again proving an issue. Newcastle appeared to have turned a corner before the international following three consecutive victories but have since lost to West Ham and drawn with a struggling Palace side.

Isak struggled during the early part of the season but remains a favourite amongst Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players and found form during Newcastle’s recent run of wins, scoring against Cheslea, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle host the Premier League leaders on Wednesday and Howe confirmed a decision will be made on the striker closer to kick-off.

“He took a knock to his hip and wasn't able to carry on. We haven't seen him in training yet,” he said.

“We don't think it's a long-term injury. We'll see (re Liverpool). It will be about pain management."
