Eddie Howe says Newcastle United are still assessing Alexander Isak, despite the player declaring himself fit to face Liverpool.
Isak was forced to withdraw just 22 minutes into the Magpies’ 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday. Anthony Gordon moved into the central striker role before Callum Wilson, recently back from a four-month layoff, came on the 75th minute.
Speaking after the game. Howe said: Howe said: “It was a contact issue, not a muscle pull which is good news for us. We hope he’ll recover quickly but at this moment we don't know.”

The Sweden international then spoke to beIN Sports on Monday and revealed: "I am fine. It was really painful, a bad knock, but I've responded well."
When asked if he would play against Liverpool on Wednesday, he responded: “That’s the plan.”
Howe, however, says United are still assessing the 25-year-old when addressing the media at his pre-match press conference.
“He took a knock to his hip and wasn’t able to continue,” Howe said. “We haven’t seen him in training yet. We’ll wait and see. “It’ll be pain management and how quickly the injury settles down.
Since arriving at Newcastle for a club-record £63million in August 2022, Isak boasts an impressive record of 40 goals in 80 appearances. His first goal for the club came in a 2-1 defeat at Anfield.
