Jorginho highlights what Arsenal are missing in their quest for a Premier League title
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has highlighted the quality his side are missing in their quest for the Premier League title. The Italian claimed that the Gunners needed some more consistency to reclaim the trophy that has eluded them for over two decades.
Since their record-breaking invincible campaign (26 wins, 12 draws) under legendary manager Arsene Wenger in the 2003-04 season, Arsenal have not been crowned champions of the English top-flight. Under Mikel Arteta's tutelage, they have come agonizingly close to the Premier League title, finishing as runners-up in the last two seasons.
Although they sit second in the league table at the moment and are in the title hunt, they are a whopping nine points behind runaway leaders Liverpool. In a recent appearance on the Rio Meets podcast hosted by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, Jorginho highlighted the importance of consistency in an EPL title race.

The Italian midfielder said (via Rio Ferdinand Presents on YouTube, at 29:39 in the video below):
"I think consistency (is one thing we need to win the trophy). We have lost a few points we shouldn't have. That's the difference for me. You have to win those games, you can't draw or lose. It happened to us unfortunately so I think consistency is what matters and then it can happen."
Up next, Arsenal will take on Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in a heavyweight Premier League fixture on December 4.
"He's a baller" - Arsenal midfielder Jorginho defends Gunners forward amid calls for new 'number nine'
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho defended his teammate Kai Havertz amid growing fan pressure on the club to sign a true striker. The Italian claimed that the German forward was more than capable of handling himself up top, calling him an 'unbelievable player'.
After back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League, Gunners fans have been pleading with the club to sign a finisher up top. Fans and pundits alike have called for Havertz to play in a deeper role and for the club to sign a world-class attacker who is primarily focused on scoring.
On the Rio Meets podcast, host and ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said:
"You look at all the Arsenal fans and the first thing they say is 'Oh, we haven't got a number nine'. Do you think like that as players? I spoke to Declan (Rice) about Kai Havertz... the way he spoke about Kai, I said whoa, these guys don't need a number nine."
In response, the 32-year-old said:
"It's crazy because he's (Havertz) just an unbelievable player. At the beginning when people were hammering him, I was like, 'These people, what are they talking about? Oh my days, I can't believe it'. I went to Kai a few times and was like, 'Don't listen, forget about it.'"
"(People don't recognize) how much he helps the team, the way he plays, the confidence he has, the confidence he gives to the team. He's so clever, he puts his body in the best positions, he always gives and finds solutions in situations you don't believe he's going to come out of. He's a baller."
Havertz has scored nine goals and assisted once in 19 games for Arsenal across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.
