Liverpool head coach Arne Slot joked that Mohamed Salah could have played his last game against Manchester City amid ongoing FFP case.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has joked that Mohamed Salah could have played his final game against Manchester City amid the ongoing Financial Fair Play hearing.

The Reds head coach has poked fun that the Egyptian could know more about possible sanctions, such as relegation, should City be found guilty of their 115 alleged breaches by the Premier League. The Merseyside club overcame Pep Guardiola's side in a 2-0 win to move nine points clear at the top of the league and wedge an 11-point gap between themselves and the reigning champions.

Salah scored the decisive second goal, after Luis Diaz was brought down by Stefan Ortega, but the Egyptian continues to face speculation over his future on Merseyside. Should an extension fail to be agreed, the 32-year-old will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season and speaking after the win on Sunday, he commented that it could be his last game against City.

The Dutchman was questioned over Salah's future and whether the recent comments from the Liverpool star are playing towards an extension or if it could be his final outing at Anfield against City.

"Maybe Mo [Salah] knows more about the 115 accusations that are done so he expects them not to be in the Premier League next season. I do expect them in the Premier League," said Slot.

"No, the boring answer is that this isn't the place to discuss Mo's contract and maybe I've said too much about the joke I've made - that will probably get the headlines.

"But it was a joke, I repeat it was a joke."

Salah was named as the player of the match in the Reds' 2-0 win over City and speaking after the triumph, he noted that it could be his last at Anfield due to the uncertainty over his future. He admitted: "Honestly it's in my head.

"Until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here. Hopefully we just win the league and will see what will happen."
