Keith Hackett believes that the first goal in the Arsenal and West Ham match should not have stood on Saturday (30 November) because of a push inside the box during the build-up.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former PGMOL chief, ex-FIFA, and Premier League referee has urged the PGMOL to “get their act together” when it comes to incidents such as this inside the box.
Gabriel Magalhaes gave the Gunners the lead in the 10th minute with a header from a detailed set-piece routine, but West Ham felt aggrieved by the situation and believed there was a foul in the build-up to the goal.
Jurrien Timber appeared to nudge past Lucas Paqueta to get him out of the way, so Bukayo Saka’s corner fell perfectly to the Arsenal defender who guided the ball into the back of the net.
The goal set the tempo for Mikel Arteta’s side who went on to take a four-goal lead in the opening 36 minutes, and even though the Hammers scored twice they ended up suffering a 5-2 defeat by the time the full-time whistle blew.
