'Utterly disgusting': Man United hierarchy told to hang their heads in shame and apologise

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Manchester United board should 'hang their heads in shame' after they hiked ticket prices by £26.

That's the view of talkSPORT Drive host and Red Devils fan Andy Goldstein - who described the decision as 'utterly disgusting'.

The minority shareholder has taken the decision to increase ticket prices at Old Trafford - raising them from a minimum of £40 to £66.

As part of the price rise, Man United will be offering no concessions for children or pensioners.

That decision has left fans furious with a group of supporters formally protesting the price rise ahead of Sunday's 4-0 win over Everton.

Reacting to the news, Man United fan Goldstein did not hold back.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, Goldstein said: “I’ve heard some mixed reviews about Jim Ratcliffe and a lot of people I know who work for Man United have been made redundant and are not happy with – not just because they’ve lost their job, but they’re not happy with him.

“He’s laid a lot of people off at Man United and he’s now done this – a hike of £26 from £40 to £66 and no concessions for children or pensioners.

“I have to tell you, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the rest of the United board, this is utterly disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

“You’re meant to be rewarding loyal fans who stick with you through thick and thin.

“United pride themselves on having some of the best fans in world football and you do this to them?

“I think you should hang your heads in shame because I think it’s utterly disgusting that this is how you ‘reward’ the fans. It’s terrible.”

Ex-England striker Darren Bent added: “It’s not great, especially with the way football is going.

“Football nowadays is so expensive – tickets, programmes, food.

“I don’t think you’ll get families now – take a father and a son, I don’t think it’s the same experience that it was 15 or 20 years ago where you go in, buy your programme, get your food. I just don’t think it’s possible with the cost of living.

“For Jim Ratcliffe, it was all about the Glazers and how bad they were and since Jim Ratcliffe came in it doesn’t seem to have made a huge difference.”

Goldstein continued: “He’s now exploiting the fans and squeezing them dry for more.

“£40 to £66 is a monumental hike, particularly in the current climate where we’re all struggling.

“But no concessions for children or pensioners? It’s disgusting!

“Liverpool did this a few years ago and it pains me to say it, but the fans went nuts and the Liverpool board listened to the fans and dropped them back.

“The United board and Jim Ratcliffe, if you’re listening to this, do yourself a favour and put it back down to £40 and apologise.

“There are United fans who will go without food or go without buying a new pair of shoes so that they can go and watch their team and this is how they’re rewarded.

“They should be ashamed of themselves.”
