Barcelona no longer seem interested in Nico Williams – Report

FC Barcelona is always looking to improve the quality of their squad no matter what. Even in times of deep financial troubles and with several limitations imposed on the club, the commitment to find that extra horsepower remains as strong as ever. Fortunately for Barcelona, it is expected that their financial situation will gradually improve.

At the same time, however, that does not mean that the club can spend as much as they want. While there are many enticing names out in the market and will continue to be so in the years to come, Barcelona must learn from their past mistakes and ensure that they do not repeat them again.

Still, there are some players who are linked to Barcelona for reasons that go above and beyond the financial element attached to their potential arrivals. One such player is Athletic Club star Nico Williams, who was heavily linked to Barcelona during the last summer transfer window and has been connected similarly to the club through various rumors ever since.

However, according to reputable journalist David Ornstein (h/t Reshad Rahman), it would appear that Barcelona may no longer be interested in acquiring the services of the La Liga winger anymore:

“Now it appears that Barcelona are not there for Nico Williams.”

This news does not exactly come as a complete shock but it could be unexpected for some people. The reality of the matter is that Barcelona are currently a team that feels secure enough with the attackers that they have, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Dani Olmo, and Lamine Yamal all contributing a lot to Hansi Flick’s team.

While the club might opt to sign a left-winger next summer, the chances of Nico William joining are now much lower compared to the opportunity he had in the previous summer window. Given the kind of profiles and players that would be available and willing to join Barça as well, there is simply a lot more competition now for him to potentially deal with.

Ultimately, however, nothing is a guarantee until it happens. For now, there is no confirmation over whether or not the Barcelona and Nico Williams saga is completely over, and only time will tell what ends up happening in relation to this particular operation.
