'I told the owners': Enzo Maresca predicts when Chelsea are going to dominate English football

Enzo Maresca has made a claim, ahead of Chelsea’s game against Southampton, that will get fans excited.

Enzo Maresca was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea‘s trip to St Mary’s on Wednesday.

A win could see the Blues move above Arsenal in the Premier League table, with both teams currently level on everything. The Gunners sit above their London rivals right now because of alphabetical order.

Maresca will have most of his squad available for the Southampton tie. However, Wesley Fofana will be missing because of injury.

What Enzo Maresca has told Chelsea’s owners about the squad

Despite being nine points behind first, on more than one occasion this season, Maresca has ruled Chelsea out of the title race.

However, the 44-year-old thinks the Blues’ squad is good enough to dominate English football in four or five years’ time and has told Chelsea’s owners just that.

In his presser ahead of the Southampton game, Maresca said: “I told the owners, for me, because of the age of the squad, Chelsea can dominate English football in four, five years.”

Like Maresca, Cole Palmer does not want to discuss the title either, believing it is way too early for that kind of talk.

Chelsea tipped to challenge for the title this season

While Maresca and Palmer are playing it cool, not everyone is avoiding the Chelsea title talk.

In fact, even back in October former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara questioned why Chelsea could not win the Premier League.

O’Hara discussed Chelsea’s title chances and said: “How can you say Chelsea can’t win the title when they have Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Romeo Lavia coming off the bench? You can’t tell me they can’t challenge for the title.”

For whatever reason, Maresca has his doubts. But going forward, it looks like the Chelsea manager believes his team can return to the top of English football and dominate.

If Chelsea get to January and are still nine points behind Liverpool, though, then Maresca may have to set the bar a bit higher.

The Blues will be content with finishing in the top four, but at this stage maybe they should be aiming a bit higher than that. With Manchester City crumbling and Arsenal level on points with them, coming second does not sound impossible.
