Arne Slot makes cheeky relegation joke when asked about Mohamed Salah's contract

Arne Slot has joked Mohamed Salah won't play Manchester City next season because they won't be in the Premier League.

The Dutch boss was quick to clarify it was a joke - making the cheeky comment after he was asked about Salah's comments on Sunday. Speaking after scoring Liverpool's second against City, the Egyptian said: "Honestly, it's in my head.

"Until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here. Hopefully we just win the league and will see what will happen."

And Slot has now responded in his press conferences: "Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 charges so expects them not to be there next season!

"The boring answer is always the same. This is not the place for me to talk about Mo's contract. It was a joke, I repeat it was a joke."

Salah is currently in the last year of his current deal - and he will be free to open discussions with clubs from outside England on January 1. And, according to The Athletic, Salah is wants to remain at the Reds for another year - but he's unhappy with negotiations dragging out.

However, speaking after Liverpool's win over Southampton last month, he admitted he was "more out than in".

"We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in," he said.

"You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see."
