Southampton manager Russell Martin has provided an injury update on Paul Onuachu before his side's Premier League meeting with Chelsea at St. Mary's Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Nigeria national teamer, making a rare start for the Saints, subbed out after 51 minutes during Southampton's 3-2 loss to table toppers Liverpool on November 24.
Although Martin tried to play down Onuachu's injury in the buildup to the game against Brighton & Hove, the tall center forward was not named in the travelling squad to the AMEX Stadium.
The FC Ebedei product was pushing for a regular spot in the team before his spell on the sidelines, making six consecutive appearances in the Premier League for the first time as a Southampton player.
Martin is hopeful Onuachu will return to action in the difficult match against Chelsea.
"We’re hopeful that Paul will be involved on Wednesday," Martin said at the [pre-match press conference](https://www.southamptonfc.com/en/news/article/martin-offers-mixed-team-news-update).
Meanwhile, Leicester City's new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy told reporters at his first [press conference](https://www.lcfc.com/pages/en/media-article/van-nistelrooy-okoli-being-assessed-ahead-of-west-ham) that Caleb Okoli partially trained with team ahead of tonight's meeting with West Ham United.
Okoli is rated as doubtful to face the Hammers after limping off injured during the first half of the Foxes' defeat to Brentford last weekend, with the Dutch football tactician watching from the stands.
The 2024 Italy national team invitee will undergo a late fitness test to determine his inclusion in the gameday squad.
