Premier League kick-off times: Why Man United and Man City matches are staggered on Wednesday

A General view inside the stadium prior to the UEFA Women's Champions League match between Arsenal FC and Juventus FC.

Manchester United take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

This week sees all 20 Premier League teams in midweek action as the hectic festive schedule starts to kick in.

Both Manchester United and Man City play on Wednesday night. United travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal, while Man City face Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.

United will be looking to build on the 4-0 win over Everton in their last outing as Ruben Amorim starts to have an impact on the team. City will look to get back to winning ways after falling to their sixth defeat in seven games against Liverpool on Sunday.

But kick-off times for this week’s games are slightly different to what you’d expect from midweek matches. Instead of the more traditional 7.45pm or 8pm kick-offs, City’s game starts at 7.30pm, while United’s kicks-off 45 minutes later at 8.15pm.

The reasons for the different times is due to all Premier League matches this week being shown live on Amazon Prime. The spread of kick-off times allows fans watching from home to spread their viewing further, and, in theory, watch more of the games.

United’s and City’s games are not the only matches effected. In fact all midweek games either kick off at 7.30pm or 8.15pm.

Tuesday night sees Ipswich Town take on Crystal Palace (7.30pm kick-off). While former United assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy takes charge of his first game as Leicester City manager when the Foxes host West Ham United at the King Power Stadium (8.15pm kick-off).
