Report: Europe's biggest clubs are monitoring 'exceptional' Chelsea player

Chelsea could watch one of their key players become a target for some of Europe’s top clubs in the near future.

Enzo Maresca will not want to lose anyone from his starting XI in the new year. This Chelsea team currently sit third in the Premier League table, nine points behind Liverpool in first.

Despite not being at Chelsea for long, Maresca has already been able to establish a core of regular starters. Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Levi Colwill, for example, have started all 13 of the Blues’ games in the Premier League so far.

Colwill recently spoke about Maresca, praising the Italian for how well he sets Chelsea up for matches.

Levi Colwill being tracked

Colwill has a contract at Chelsea until 2029, so the club are under no pressure to sell him.

However, that has not stopped other outfits from looking at the central defender, who has become a mainstay in Chelsea’s backline.

According to The Athletic, big clubs across Europe are monitoring his progress, with Bayern Munich likely to be one of them.

They had an enquiry for Colwill rejected by Chelsea over the summer, the same outlet claims.

Maresca will be delighted that the 21-year-old stayed, as he continues to help Chelsea win games. Colwill was just named in one Team of the Week following Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Aston Villa.

Levi Colwill’s importance set to increase

Again, Colwill has been a key player for Chelsea this season, playing alongside Wesley Fofana at the heart of defence.

Fofana has now picked up an injury, though, and could be out for a while. It puts more pressure on Colwill and increases his importance to this Chelsea side.

Benoit Badiashile has not always impressed in a blue shirt, while Tosin Adarabioyo has not been at Stamford Bridge for long.

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has doubts about Badiashile, but now may be the time for him to step up following Fofana’s injury.

There is not much to worry about with Colwill, however, who continues to bring so much to the table.

“Exceptional from a defender,” Jamie Redknapp said when discussing Colwill‘s passing last season.
