Ivan Toney to take U-turn as Chelsea and Spurs keen to sign him

Chelsea and Spurs are keen to bring Ivan Toney back to England

The 28 year old moved to Saudi Arabia only in this summer

The Al Ahli striker feels lack of motivation and hence can be open to potential return

Ivan Toney made a big name for himself since he joined Brentford in 2020. He scored 33 goals in 2020/21 season to help the Bees gain promotion back to Premier League. Later, Toney attracted all the attention in the 2022/23 season.

Toney ended the 2022/23 season with 21 goals out of which 20 were in Premier League. He finished as 3rd highest goal-scorer in that season. Then last season was not that good as they player was facing ban due to certain activities.

Toney came back and even made England’s Euro 2024 list. After the Euros, he was linked with Brentford exit. At that moment, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham were all keen to sign him. The Blues were even prepared to offer a big contract for him.

But, Toney decided to join Saudi side Al Ahli who offered a huge contract for him. But now it seems like that move has not paid well for the striker. This will now present an opportunity for English clubs who were interested in him earlier.

Chelsea and Spurs interested to sign Toney in January

As per Fichajes, Toney is considering a return to England as he has not found the motivation in the new environment. The report further states that Chelsea and Spurs are once again shown interest in signing him.

Spurs signed Solanke this summer whereas the Blues continued with Nicolas Jackson. Both strikers are doing well, especially Jackson who has been highly consistent. But, both clubs still feel like they can improve in that area.

Toney will not be an easy target to sign in January. It has just been six months since he made the move to Saudi. In addition, he earns around £400,000 per week which is equal to the highest salary earned by player (De Bruyne) in Premier League.

But, Toney can still force the move and compromise on salary as he will want to play for England national team regularly. Since he moved to Saudi, he has not even been called up once to represent his country which may have forced the striker to rethink his choices.

Live Updates

The Blues will face Spurs on Sunday. Both clubs will play one game each before london derby. Chelsea are coming from a fine form whereas Tottenham have tasted a bitter draw against Fulham recently. As for Toney, he scored a brilliant brace in the AFC Champions League yesterday. He now has 8 goals and 3 assists for Al Ahli in 16 games so far.
