The latest player to pick up an injury is Villa’s ever-reliable ‘keeper, Martinez. The Argentine has become one of the world’s best since his move to Villa Park and has been a mainstay between the sticks.

Therefore, concerns were raised on Sunday when Martinez was forced off against Chelsea with an injury.

It was been reported that the goalkeeper has suffered a small finger fracture which could keep him out of the squad for a couple of weeks.

Now, Emery has confirmed that the goalkeeper is back in training and could play against Brentford tomorrow.

He said: “We are going to try today this afternoon but I don’t know how he is going to feel. It depends on the training today… I don’t know now [if he is able to play tomorrow].”

One of the biggest misses for Villa in recent weeks has been Amadou Onana. The midfielder has got off to a flying start since he signed for the Birmingham outfit in the summer.

However, Onana picked up an injury with Belgium in November which resulted in him getting sent home from international duty.

Since then, the midfielder has missed clashes against Crystal Palace, Juventus and Chelsea after failing to recover.

Before the game against the Blues, Emery refused to rule out Onana’s return but on matchday, he did not make the squad.

His most recent knock came before the international break when Ramsey was forced off against Liverpool.

Since then, he has failed to recover and has remained on the sidelines throughout the rest of November.
