In the last summer transfer window, the clear top priority arrival for FC Barcelona was the Athletic Club winger Nico Williams. The Blaugranes remained linked with the Spanish forward for the entirety of the summer transfer window, but ultimately were unable to land him as he decided to remain with his current club for this season.
Following the end of the summer transfer window, the Catalans continued to remain linked with the Spaniard, as it was believed that he had promised only one more year to Athletic Club, and would be open to joining Barcelona in 2025.
However, recent reports suggested that Barcelona are no longer interested in him, as they are quite satisfied with their current wingers, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, both of whom have had an excellent start to the season.
But this does not mean that the €70m-rated player will continue at the Basque club, as SPORT reports that after the cooling of interest from Barcelona, the winger is now contemplating playing outside of Spain, and the Premier League can be an option for him if he leaves Athletic Club.
Several big European clubs like Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham can make a move for him, while PSG are also studying this option.
Although the Catalans have not completely rejected the idea of signing Nico, they will pursue him only if the player himself makes an effort to join them, especially as Athletic Club is not likely to let him go for a sum lower than his release clause, and the player is also expected to have a high salary demand.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have been linked with some other players for this position, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Rafael Leao, but both of these players will be even more expensive. Free agents like Mohamed Salah can also appeal to the Catalans, but they want to bring in a younger player for this role.
