Attention on Premier League officials has increased in recent weeks following last month's scandal surrounding PGMOL official David Coote. Coote found himself at the center of a number of allegations when two incriminating videos emerged that allegedly featured the Nottinghamshire referee.

Coote was suspended by the PGMOL pending a full investigation following the emergence of the first video, which showed a man alleged to be Coote describing a Liverpool performance as 's---' and calling Jurgen Klopp, who was the Liverpool manager when the video was recorded, a 'German c---'.

The second video showed a man alleged to be Coote snorting a white powder in a German hotel room during the summer. Coote was in Germany earlier this year in his capacity as a referee at Euro 2024.

Coote is also being investigated by the FA after it was alleged that he discussed giving a yellow card with a fan before a Championship match between Leeds and West Brom in 2019.

Coote denied the yellow card allegations, saying: "I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations. Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life they have never affected my decision-making on the field. I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability."
