Why are Arsenal ahead of Chelsea in Premier League points table?

Arsenal lead Chelsea currently in the Premier League points table

Both clubs have nothing to seperate between them

Here is the real reason behind Gunners having lead in the race

Arsenal have once again found the lost rhythm after Martin Odegaard coming back from injury. They have moved up the points table and are now on the second place. But, they don’t have lead above Chelsea who are on third place.

The Blues have been able to continue their fine form under Enzo Maresca. They have moved above Man City but are still on third place despite having same points as Gunners.

Why Arsenal lead Chelsea in Premier League points table?

As per the rule, if two teams have same points their ranking will be decided by certain aspects. Firstly goal difference will play a huge part followed by number of goals scored, then the team who collected most points in the head to head fixture. Lastly, it will be decided on which team scored most goals in the head to head.

As of now, both london clubs have 25 points, both have won 7 games, drew 4 and lost 2. In addition, both have scored 26 goals and conceded 14 which ties their goal difference as +12 each.

After all these aspects matched, one would have looked at the head-to-head game. That game too ended in draw where both clubs scored 1 goal each. The second head-to-head game has not yet been played and hence the ranking is decided by the last option.

Official rules state that if everything matches perfectly, the ranking will be decided by the first alphabet of the club’s name. As a result, Gunners get the lead as A comes first and C comes third. Hence, as of now Gunners have the upper hand in the title race. Rules stated by the Official Premier League Website.

Live Updates

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca and Cole Palmer have already cleared that they are not in the title race. Their focus will be to finish in the top 4 which at the moment looks very likely.

On the other hand, Gunners will definately fight for the title. They have received a positive boost ahead of their upcoming clash against Man United. Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez will be absent to face Gunners due to suspension.
