Everton will have to entertain offers for the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite until The Friedkin Group’s takeover is complete, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reported on 3 December that the centre-back is touted to remain at Goodison Park beyond January and until the end of the season, with no club expected to meet the £70million valuation despite Manchester United’s interest remaining.

The Merseyside-based club, who only plan to offer the England international a new deal if he shows a desire to stay, are said to be protected by Branthwaite’s long-term contract to 2027.

Dan Friedkin’s takeover of the Goodison Park outfit is awaiting league approval and is still expected to go through in mid-December, but it is sensible to consider alternatives should things go wrong.

This is why it is hard to rule out a January sale for Branthwaite, although he is likely to see out the season in Merseyside.

He has remained on Manchester United’s radar despite the Red Devils having two bids, with the second being an initial £45m, rejected in the summer.

Ruben Amorim’s side, though, are unlikely to pursue a move for the 22-year-old again, having signed Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.

Real Madrid, though, have been credited with an interest in him amid injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao [CaughtOffside].

This is certainly one to watch.
