Sean Dyche admits he has “made errors” as Everton fight for their Premier League lives.

Everton face Wolves at Goodison Park on Wednesday in a real relegation six-pointer and Gary O’Neil’s side can climb above the Blues if they win. Everton face Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in their four games after that and many fans have lost patience with Dyche following their 4-0 capitulation at Manchester United.

Dyche knows he has made mistakes with his line-ups and some tactical decisions and insists he and his players are still batting hard. “For sure we’ve made errors, I’ve made errors, the team have made errors, that’s quite obvious,” said the Blues boss.

“We haven’t killed teams off when we’ve been in a position to do so. Tactical errors, picking the right team. Sometimes the hardest thing is when a player doesn’t take a chance, because that’s the hardest thing and as a manager, you can’t take it for them and you can’t stop a mistake for them.

“You can limit it with your organisation and maybe the cover of another player, the what-ifs as I call it, be alive in both boxes. The errors I’ve made are really the tactical, can you find a different way, can you operate a different way?

“I wasn’t expecting it to be easy when I walked in here and it certainly hasn’t been. The fine margins are always there for all to see and it’s a fact of life, you have to get the margins right and we haven’t done that so far this season.

“There’s so much work being done here, so many good things have been done, but of course, I don’t think that makes things all right, you’ve got to win games and we haven’t won enough games this season. We’ve got to win more, we’ve got to correct it ASAP.”

American billionaire Dan Friedkin is expected to complete his takeover this month and Dyche claims he still hasn’t heard from him. He says it would be “good business practice” to contact him to get his views on Everton, even if he wants to make a change.

“We’re still waiting on the new ownership,” he said. “I still haven’t spoken to anyone and it seems to be that it’s gathering some kind of pace. Who knows what that will bring? We’ll have to wait and see because I’ve had no contact of any kind.

“I can only imagine, I don’t know them as operators, but I imagine they’ve gone, ‘no until we’re absolutely there, then we’ll just sit tight’. I’m sure when they get to the point when they’re ready or nearly ready, they will reach out because why wouldn’t they?

“They have to get a feel, whether I’m their guy or not, they have to get a feel for what I’ve learned in my time at this club and what others have learned. I would imagine that’s good business practice, it’s up to them.”

Dyche claims fans’ expectations were raised unrealistically for this season because they finished the last campaign well, winning five of their last eight games. “The fact is, it’s never been an easy ride since I walked in the building, everyone knows that,” he said.

“The fans say they want the truth and I’ve never been anything other than truthful. I’ve never questioned the fans and I still won’t. I’ve never questioned anything about the club. I’ve tried to keep everything in house and it’s been difficult.

“We finished really well last season and maybe that was a bit of a misleading one going into this season as if it was going to be an easy season. It’s not and it was never going to be. But I’m ready for that, I’m more than ready for the challenge.”
