Pundit Admits He Got It Wrong About Chelsea Star Who Has Been A Completely "Different Player" This Season

TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has praised Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo for his performances this campaign.

Speaking to sports betting site talkSPORT BET, McCoist said he was “justifiably critical” of the Ecuadorian’s performances following his £115m move from Brighton last year but he has been made to eat humble pie now:

“Moises Caicedo has looked an absolute different player this season, he looks a different human being. It’s not just him as well, so does Romeo Lavia who has come in alongside Caicedo, he’s been different class.”

“It looks like the Chelsea midfield have a different balance to them and a different attitude, I was justifiably critical of Caicedo last season, everyone knew his ability when he came in from Brighton, but he was unable to show it for whatever reason.”

“I must commend him on his turnaround in form, credit where it’s due. The midfield for Chelsea looks excellent and it’s really refreshing to see. The credit must go to the players for turning it around but also to Enzo Maresca, who’s got them playing some excellent football.”

Caicedo’s season in numbers

The 23-year-old has made the 3rd most tackles (43) in the Premier League this season and the 7th most interceptions (21 in total).

Caicedo has also made 70 ball recoveries, the joint 7th highest in the English top flight. He has been key to Enzo Maresca’s side’s strong start to the campaign, which sees the Blues in 3rd place after 13 games, level on points with Arsenal in 2nd.

Chelsea have options in midfield

As McCoist mentions, Romeo Lavia has complimented Caicedo in the middle of the park, but Enzo Fernandez has found some form in recent weeks too.

The Argentinian international scored for the second game in a row against Aston Villa at the weekend. Competition for a places in midfield can only be a good thing for the team as a whole.
