Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon was adamant that Liverpool will win the Premier League this season after being quizzed during the international break. The former Everton forward joined Newcastle nearly two years ago after losing his way at Goodison Park.
Since moving to the North East, Gordon's form has improved dramatically and he now finds himself a regular fixture in the England senior squad. While at Newcastle, his fondness for Liverpool has become apparent and led to speculation about him one day returning to Merseyside to play for the red half of the city.
In the summer, that prediction nearly came true when Newcastle offered Gordon to Liverpool in exchange for Joe Gomez. Eddie Howe's side was struggling to abide by Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules so selling Gordon was seen as a last resort.

However, they eventually managed to offload fringe players to avoid sanctions from the Premier League and the Gordon deal fell through. Now, the winger is preparing to face Liverpool for the first time this season at St James' Park with his future at Newcastle still a talking point.
Ahead of the game, footage from YouTuber Mikey Poulli has been released where he is seen asking England players at St George's Park who is going to win the Premier League. When Gordon is asked, without hesitation the winger says: "Liverpool," before his Newcastle teammate Tino Livramento picked the Magpies.
Gordon was perhaps just being realistic with his response considering the Reds are so far out in front at the top of the table. However, with his future a keen talking point, it is clear he holds Arne Slot's side in high regard.
Earlier this year, the Newcastle winger singled out Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as his idol growing up on Merseyside. “Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up,” Gordon told The Overlap in April. “Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”
