The president of Paris Saint-Germain has put paid to rumours that Mohamed Salah could be heading to the French champions as speculation continues to swirl regarding the Liverpool winger's future.

The Egyptian provided yet another reminder of his importance to Arne Slot's side, assisting Cody Gakpo's opener against Manchester City on Sunday before wrapping up a vital win with a coolly-converted penalty.

The winger's contract is set to expire at the end of this season and he claimed that there are no new offers to stay on the table from Anfield chiefs in a shock interview after he inspired the Reds to a 3-2 win at Southampton on November 24.

The forward, 32, conducted a rare chat with Mail Sport and a small group of other reporters after scoring twice in the away victory, where he said he was 'more out than in' and criticised the club.

Discussion about Salah's next career move have only accelerated since that interview and the forward has been linked to PSG in recent days thanks to his good relationship with club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.

But now the PSG chief has sensationally rubbished the idea that the Egyptian could end up at the Parc des Princes, in an interview with Sky Sports.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted that PSG will not be signing the Egyptian any time soon

He said: 'It's not true. He's a fantastic and extraordinary player, but we never thought about him, to be honest.

'We know that all the clubs would like to have him, but this rumour about us is simply false.'

Salah shares a relationship with Al-Khelaifi and the club have previously tried to sign him but are now being encouraged in their efforts by the Liverpool star, as reported by L'Equipe last week.

The French outlet - who also claimed PSG have denied links - state that the 32-year-old is actively engaging in discussions and could see himself playing for the Ligue 1 champions next season.

However, recruiting the prolific goalscorer would go against the club's current sporting project of staying away from superstar personalities and instead investing in young players for the future.

The Liverpool star, who continues to refuse to let the mounting speculation affect his game, revealed on Sunday that the statement victory could be his last match against City.

He told Sky Sports: 'That was in my head, that, until now, this is possibly the last City game that I play for Liverpool so I'm going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible so I'm going to enjoy every second here and if we just win the league and see what will happen.'

Salah now has 223 goals for Liverpool in 368 matches since joining from Roma in 2017 and he will prove a huge loss to the Anfield side if he leaves on a free transfer next summer.

Last month, he dropped a huge hint that he may be on the verge of an exit, giving reporters an insight into the state of contract negotiations.

'I'm probably more out than in,' he said. 'You know I have been in the club for many years.

'There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said, it is December and I haven't received anything yet about my future.

'I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans' hands.'

Al-Khelaïfi has been chief executive and president of PSG, which could be Salah's next destination, since 2011, presiding over a period of vast success for the French side which has seen them win 10 league titles and sign megastars including Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

He was once a professional tennis player before entering the world in business where he has rose to become chairman of beIN Media Group and Qatar Sports Investments
