Rangers are tracking Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng, as Barcelona make the first move, according to SNL 24 Soccer.
The South African outlet reported on 2 December that amid interest from the Gers and Spanish side Levante [The Sun, 18 May], Barcelona have enquired about the availability of the 20-year-old midfielder.
Mofokeng has previously undergone a trial period with Premier League side Wolves, and having scored 10 goals from midfield in 58 games for the Pirates has been tipped to go to the very top.
Relebohile Mofokeng transfer could be huge statement for Rangers
Pipping the likes of Barcelona – albeit their B-team – Levante, and Wolves to Mofokeng’s signature would be one hell of a coup for the Gers, and they’d arguably be able to offer something the other three can’t.
That, of course, is regular first-team game-time, with Mofokeng unlikely to break into the starting XIs of Wolves, Levante, and especially Barcelona any time soon due to the strength of competition.

Hamza Igamane

The Premier League and La Liga would be huge, and potentially insurmountable, steps up from the South African Premiership, particularly for an attacking midfielder who stands at just five-foot-three in height.
The Scottish Premiership is undoubtedly a physical league too, but as Hamza Igamane has proven since arriving in Govan from Moroccan side FAR Rabat, the gap from Africa’s top leagues is a bridgable one.
Igamane’s success – scoring three goals in as many European appearances for the Gers – should be the blueprint for any player heading to Europe from Africa, and Mofokeng joining him at Ibrox could be a shrewd move for the Light Blues to make.
