**Newcastle United have had some torrid luck on and off the pitch in the last year, but nothing compares to this.**
If you were told at the start of the season that by December Newcastle be bottom half and one of the worst goalscoring records in the league what would you say?
You would be baffled wouldn't you?! After everything fans have been through in the past six months you would be hoping for some positives at least. Safe to say the season isn't going the way Newcastle fans thought it would.
Despite this, The Magpies are only four points off the top four in what is shaping up to be an incredibly tight season. So don't rule a European finish out.
Injuries have plagued Howe since the beginning of last season but a stat that the 47-year-old was asked about today will leave Newcastle fans believing that the club has had a curse set on them.

Eddie Howe comments on Newcastle United's bizarre poor coin toss record at St James' Park
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upon signing a new contract with the club, Bruno Guimaraes was handed the captains armband for the 2024/25 season. Since then, the Brazilian has failed to win a single coin toss at St James' Park.
The tinfoil hats are well and truly on now with that statistic. It's become that much of a problem that reporter Andy Sixsmith had to ask the Toon boss about it.
> Howe said: “I’m sort of aware of it! It’s one of those things isn’t it? Surely the law of averages suggests he’ll win one soon?!”
Hopefully for Newcastle, tomorrow against Liverpool is the first time Bruno wins a toss to get things going early doors.
According to Newcastle fan and good friend of Sam Fender Richie Southern, The Magpies have won a coin toss at St James' Park this season. Ironically, it was in the Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon which Guimaraes didn't start it... you couldn't write it.

What did Eddie Howe have to say about Newcastle United vs Liverpool?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Howe is gearing up to face Liverpool on Wednesday night. The game will be live on Amazon with a 19:30 kick-off.
> When asked about Newcastle's chances in the game, he said: "I think we're always confident at home. I think regardless of the opponent, we have to be our best selves and we have to learn lessons from previous games and find ways to evolve and improve."Very recently we beat Chelsea in the cup and Arsenal at home - there's absolutely no reason why we can't continue that positive run.
>
> We have to view the game for what it is. We have to, as I say, nullify their threats. We have to be strong defensively, but we have to bring our strengths as well and our strengths are unique to us when we're playing at home."
A win with other results going their way could mean Newcastle rise as high as sixth in the table.
