The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies are linked with a move for a Premier League striker.
Newcastle United have reportedly shown their ‘interest’ in a possible deal for a Premier League striker who once netted a history-making hat-trick against the Magpies.
Eddie Howe is believed to be keen to strengthen his attacking options in the January transfer window after Callum Wilson’s struggles with injury have left Alexander Isak to carry the burden of the being the Magpies only natural striker for the vast majority of the season so far. However, the Sweden international picked up a hip injury in Saturday’s draw at Crystal Palace and that means Howe must decide whether to hand Wilson his first start since a 4-1 win at Burnley in April or to press Anthony Gordon into the lead role in attack against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Newcastle have been linked with several strikers in recent months with Lille’s Jonathan David and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin both named as possible targets. CaughtOffside have now claimed the Magpies are one of six Premier League clubs that have registered an interest in Brighton and Hove Albion frontman Evan Ferguson, who became one of the youngest players to score a hat-trick when he hit a treble in the Seagull’s win against Newcastle in the first fortnight of last season. Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are also said to retain an interest in the Republic of Ireland international - but it is West Ham United that are said to be leading the race for Ferguson after Brighton were said to have demanded £60m before they will consider a deal for the 20-year-old.
There was speculation last month suggesting Ferguson could be allowed to leave the club on loan until the end of the season and Ipswich Town and Championship promotion contenders Burnley were both suggested as possible suitors. Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler ruled out such a move and revealed the message he had given to the striker as he looks to force his way into the Brighton side.

Reacting to the talk of a temporary departure, the Seagulls boss said: "I don't know from where this information comes because I said to Evan that I am happy he is here with the team. I am happy how he is training, what shape he is in physically, mentally. Of course, he is a young player and needs game time. Accept your role and make sure you bring yourself in the mood and the shape that, when you get the chance, you are ready. It is exactly that which I demand from Evan and also what I said to him. I never said anything to him about a loan or anything like this."
