The 20-year-old has emerged as one of his nations most talented young defenders

Aston Villa are believed to be plotting an ambitious move for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez after his hugely impressive performance against Unai Emery’s side in the Champions League.

The West Midlands side are currently experiencing a poor run of form, which is threatening to derail the club’s hopes of success both in the league and in Europe.

Emery’s men have kept just one clean sheet since the start of November and are currently on an eight-match streak without a win across all competitions.

The team’s defensive frailties have become a particular cause for concern and Emery is determined to bring in someone that can help rectify that issue.

Ordonez is a player that fits the bill, according to Ecuadorian outlet Diario Expreso, who report that Villa have made him one of their top winter targets.

The 20-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in Belgian’s top-flight and has emerged as an increasingly important part of the team at Pro League title contenders Club Brugge.

He started his career in Ecuador with local side Independiente del Valle in 2022 before moving onto Club Brugge’s B team that same summer.

Ordonez has already racked up more than 100 career appearances and has won plaudits for his exceptional sprint speed, strength and his defensive intelligence - which also enable him to play as a right-back when called upon.

Sports View describes him as someone with very similar qualities to former Chelsea man Antonio Rudiger, who is widely regarded as one of the very best centre backs of the last decade.

Ordonez has represented Ecuador on four occasions at international level and is seen as a huge part of Sebastián Beccacece’s side's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup in 2026.

His promise at such a young age makes him a key target for Aston Villa although Premier League rivals Newcastle United have also been keeping close tabs on the youngster.

Sports Feed understands that Ordonez is valued at around £24m by the Belgian champions where he is under contract until 2028.
