Blindkilde Brown to make senior England debut

Laura Blindkilde Brown is set to make her senior England debut in Tuesday’s international friendly against Switzerland.

The midfielder has been selected in Sarina Wiegman’s starting XI ahead of the Lionesses’ latest assignment at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane.

England will look to build on Saturday’s goalless draw with the United States at Wembley Stadium, played in front of a record crowd for a women’s international friendly.

Blindkilde Brown, who was also eligible to represent Denmark, has been a regular at under-23 level for England, but was called up to the senior squad for the first time in the latest international break.

Still just 21, she joined City on deadline day in January 2024 from fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Aston Villa, where she’d broken through after joining from city rivals Birmingham in 2020.

The midfielder forged a reputation as one of the WSL’s most exciting young talents while at the Villans, winning their Young Player of the Season award for 2022/23.

That fine form continued at City, with Blindkilde Brown grabbing her first goal in blue against West Ham United in April 2024.

So far, the youngster has made 14 appearances for Gareth Taylor’s side, finding the net twice as she continues to develop alongside world class talent in the City midfield.

And now the 21-year-old has hit yet another memorable milestone in her young career, representing her country at senior level for the first time.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Laura on making her England debut.
