**Manchester United**‘s FA Cup defence journey will start in January with a trip to North London. As they will be facing 14 time cup winner Arsenal. The Gunners are also their next Premier League opponents. It will be the new manager Ruben Amorim’s first game against the big 6’s. He will surely be handling too much pressure going into the fixture on Thursday night.
It has now also been confirmed that Man United will return to north London early in the new year. As the third-round tie scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, January 11. Monday’s draw was held at Old Trafford, with former Reds Mark Hughes and Dion Dublin drawing the balls, and our match was the second to be announced.
It will surely be a exciting game between the two heavyweights of the English league. The clubs have a rich mutual history in the cup, with two final clashes (both won by Arsenal) in 1979 and 2005.
However, Man United have dominated semi-finals. The Red Devils won in 1983, 1999 and 2004, with the most recent meeting coming in 2019. In that game they defeated Unai Emery’s side 3-1 in the fourth round under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This is their lone previous visit to the Emirates Stadium in the cup. And surprisingly, the two clubs have never met in the third round before.
