Everton will not be terminating the loan deal of Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison early in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Harry Watkinson.

The TEAMtalk journalist reported via his personal X account (3 December) that due to the size of the Toffees’ squad, they have “no intentions” of allowing him to leave.

Everton have recently been linked with making his stay permanent but with the Friedkin Group’s takeover edging closer, a final decision is yet to be made [The Athletic, 29 November].

“Understand Everton have no plans to terminate Jack Harrison’s loan in January, despite rumours. Due to the small size of #EFC squad they have no intention of allowing him to leave,” Watkinson wrote.

Leeds United should be happy with the latest Jack Harrison news

Although many fans may think that a termination of Harrison’s loan deal would allow the club to sell him on in January, that doesn’t seem likely to be the case at the moment.

The attacker has been linked with a permanent exit from Elland Road since they were relegated two seasons ago and while he’s had a couple of spells on loan with Everton, the Toffees are still undecided whether they want to make his stay permanent.

Everton triggered a clause in the Englishman’s contract that allowed them to sign him on a loan deal due to Leeds’ relegation from the top flight in the 2022-23 season.

While he’s made a fair few appearances for the Merseyside outfit this season, he’s hardly set the world alight.

Staying with Sean Dyche’s team for a bit longer could allow him to get into the swing of things and potentially refind his form in front of goal which could help Leeds out more in the long run.

Which, with their promotion goals in mind, could be exactly what the West Yorkshire outfit needs.
