'I had heard rumours': Alexander Isak now says he was truly blown away by what Newcastle fans…

Alexander Isak insists he is fit to face Liverpool, as the Newcastle United striker aims to repay the St James’ Park crowd.

The 25-year-old had been a doubt heading into Wednesday night’s game against Liverpool, after Alexander Isak suffered an injury during the draw with Crystal Palce.

The forward was forced off in the 22nd minute, while Eddie Howe said Isak had not trained as of Tuesday morning.

However, Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever has told the club’s official website that he feels good and plans to be available to face Liverpool.

Alexander Isak reflects on ‘amazing’ Wor Flags display

That is great news for Newcastle, who have the luxury of another night game at St James’ Park. Sadly the previous one did not go to plan, as Newcastle lost 2-0 to West Ham.

Ahead of that game, Wor Flags produced a wonderful tribute to Alexander Isak, as the super Swede took centre stage.

Now Isak has reflected on that display, admitting that he will remember what Wor Flags did ‘forever’.

“It was amazing,” he said.

“I had heard rumours about it happening. The feeling once I saw it was incredible. I’ve never experienced that before for myself so that’s for sure something I will remember forever. I felt truly humbled and delighted to see it.

“The love [from the fans] goes both ways. I felt appreciation and I appreciate them back. Now it’s just about doing good on the pitch.”

Isak was then asked if feels as if he wants to give the fans something back after the Wor Flags display.

“Yeah, but I’ve felt that before, not just because of this gesture,” he said.

“I think we all feel that the support they give us, home and away, is very special and it gives us a lot of energy.”

Liverpool game is a chance for Isak to repay Newcastle fans

Following Wor Flags’ display, Isak was unable to find the net. He squandered some big opportunities against West Ham, as the Magpies slumped to a very surprising defeat.

Isak was unable to repay the Toon fans for their efforts, and is now set for a fresh chance to do just that.

It is vital that he is fit enough to start against Liverpool, with Isak currently Newcastle’s top scorer with five goals. He also has a decent record against the Reds, having scored two in four games.

However, both of Isak’s goals came at Anfield, with the forward yet to find the net against Liverpool on home soil. He will hope that changes on Wednesday night, as the club’s record signing aims to give the St James’ Park crowd something back after what was a humbling experience against West Ham.
