Rangers offered ‘exciting’ Premier League winger three years after trying to sign brother

The Premier League loan market is one that Rangers have exploited to mixed results in recent seasons.

Abdallah Sima was a huge hit with supporters during his time in Glasgow, whilst Fabio Silva and Amad Diallo have gone on to better things since leaving Ibrox.

It’s a market which could once again interest Rangers ahead of the January transfer window opening and now one Premier League side have offered the Gers the chance to work with an ‘exciting’ talent.

Rangers offered £20m Chelsea attacker

Rangers News understands that Premier League outfit Chelsea have offered Carney Chukwuemeka to the Ibrox side ahead of the January window.

Rangers are one of a number of clubs who have been notified of the winger’s availability, with clubs across Europe, including Old Firm rivals Celtic, also alerted.

Carney Chukwuemeka cost Chelsea £20m when they signed the winger from Aston Villa in 2022 but the 21-year-old has not made a single Premier League appearance this season.

At the time of his arrival, Todd Boehly described the forward as ‘one of the most exciting young players in Europe’.

Limited to opportunities in the Europa Conference League and League Cup, it’s believed the Stamford Bridge side are looking for January options as they look to trim a bloated squad.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

Rangers have watched the likes of Kwame Poku this season with the Ibrox side in the market for a new creative attacker.

Whilst for the time being it remains unclear if Rangers will make a move for Carney Chukwuemeka, the attacker could prove a stop gap solution until the Peterborough star’s contract expires in the summer.

Rangers tried to sign Chelsea star’s brother

Rangers fans might recognise the name Chukwuemeka from historic links to the Chelsea star’s older brother.

Rangers were strongly linked to Caleb Chukwuemeka back in the summer of 2021 as the Ibrox side looked to take advantage of cross-border compensation rules to sign the forward.

Opting to move to Aston Villa after his deal with Northampton Town expired the same year, Caleb Chukwuemeka failed to make an impact at Villa Park.

After loan stints with Livingston and Crawley Town, the forward eventually moved to Slovenian side Tabor Sežana.

Chukwuemeka has since moved to AC Bellinzona in the Swiss second tier and one wonders what might’ve been had the forward moved to Rangers.

What a twist of fate it might prove too if Rangers take up the offer to sign Caleb’s brother Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea.
