Despite being warned, Marc Guehi has written another message on his Crystal Palace captain armband against Ipswich.
As the mid-week Premier League fixtures began on Tuesday, Crystal Palace were at Portman Road and picked up what is a huge result.
Oliver Glasner watched as his side made it three games unbeaten, but importantly picked up all three points for just the second time this season.
Crystal Palace winning sees the club shoot up to 12 points and 16th in the Premier League table.
It was a Jean-Philippe Mateta goal which secured the three points. However, once again Marc Guehi’s armband has emerged as a talking point.
Marc Guehi writes a new message on the captain’s armband
The controversy for Guehi began after the Eagles drew 1-1 with Newcastle on Saturday with the International Football Association Board (IFAB) spotting that he had modified his rainbow armband. Guehi had written “I love Jesus” on the armband.

He was the only captain in the Premier League to do so which led to rumours of a possible ban from the FA. Guehi escaped with a mere warning, however, this was before Tuesday night’s trip to Portman Road.

Law 4 of IFAB’s rulebook states: “Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images.”
Now, Guehi has written another religious-themed message against Ipswich although it is different.
The £18m man wrote, “Jesus [loves] you”, on his armband, which is likely to raise problems with the FA once again.
The FA surely won’t punish Crystal Palace No.6
Despite the rules, if Guehi were to be punished for his religious message, it would have been a strange decision by English football’s governing body.
The message against Ipswich was less of a statement than the message against Newcastle by Guehi – who is yet to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park.
By wearing the armband, Guehi showed that he is supportive of the Premier League’s initiative to promote LGBTQ+ inclusion within football.
In contrast, Ipswich’s captain Sam Morsy was also in action and was not even wearing the armband – so it would be a farce to punish Guehi.
Guehi is among the nicest people to represent Crystal Palace and it would be completely against his character to intentionally offend or besmirch anyone in the LGBTQ+ community. Hopefully, the FA will take this into account.
