Crystal Palace just about got over the line for their first away win of the season, moving up to 16th thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s chipped finish.
Oliver Glasner’s _Eagles_ continue to soar, as they’ve now picked up points in five of their last six games.
Meanwhile, Kieran McKenna’s _Tractor Boys_ could puffing black smoke, so often having close games, but failing to get the goal they need.
Ipswich are still yet to win at home in the Premier League as they remain in the relegation zone.
It took 35 minutes for any semblance of a chance for either side as they battled for dominance. It fell to the visitors. Eberechi Eze was played through the overlapping Tyrick Mitchell and he delivered a low cross which found Daniel Muñoz, but he slipped, and his shot went wide with the assistance of a Jacob Greaves’ block.
Thankfully, the fans didn’t have to wait as long for another chance. Eze was played through one-on-one with Arijanet Muric by Mateta. It initially looked like a poor shot from Palace’s star man, but replays showed an impressive block by Wes Burns which redirected the ball straight at his goalkeeper.

A late corner for Ipswich caused Dean Henderson his first issue of the game. Leif Davis’ delivery was headed low and goalwards by Harry Clarke, but the keeper did well and kept it out.
Ipswich got the first chance of the second half two minutes in, with a header on target by Liam Delap comfortably saved by Henderson.
Crystal Palace finally found the breakthrough just before the hour mark. Eze played it to Mateta in the channels and he shrugged Greaves aside before chipping it over Muric for the opener.

The Frenchman should have got his second of the game only minutes later. It was a great through ball by Eze again, and the Palace striker was one-on-one with Muric, but hit it right at him.
The _Eagles_ would go on to waste a promising counter-attack with 20 minutes to go. They had a momentary four-on-three situation, but Ismaïla Sarr tried an impossible pass, turning over possession and making it two squandered opportunities to put the game to bed for the visitors.
An intricate free-kick routine from Ipswich with five minutes to go resulted in Greaves hitting the post, as neither of his targets back across goal could reach it. And that was that; Palace had secured a vital win.
Just the Mateta goal separated the two sides. It wasn’t a classic game, but Palace will be happy to have picked up all the points in an important game at the bottom of the table.
Glasner’s side were the better team on the night and they continue to look improved since their win against Tottenham. While McKenna’s side did some nice things, they struggled to actually create chances against the visitor’s back three – leaving them slap bang in the middle of the relegation zone.
