Andy Goldstein believes Jordan Pickford could lose his spot as England No.1 if Everton are relegated from the Premier League.

The 30-year-old has racked up 73 international caps with the Three Lions, being trusted as the first-choice shot-stopper over the last few years, especially by Gareth Southgate.

That same situation has occurred at Goodison Park, having made almost 300 appearances for the Toffees since his arrival in 2017, but he has now been told that his spot in the England team could vanish.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Monday (2 December), Darren Bent said: “Do you think anything affects Pickford being England’s No.1? Or is he the only one?

Goldstein replied: “Because of a performance from another goalkeeper, do you mean? Is anyone close to him? No.

“If they go down, he won’t be England’s goalkeeper if he stays there. England can’t have their No.1 playing in the Championship. You just can’t.”

Jordan Pickford to lose England spot if Everton relegated?

Much like every season in recent history, relegation seems like a real possibility for the Toffees this term, with only two points separating them from the dreaded dropzone.

The likelihood is that Sean Dyche will somehow find a way to salvage the season and lead his side up the Premier League table if he is afforded enough time in charge to do so.

But if the Toffees were to taste relegation, there would have to be an exodus of exits, especially with the likes of Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with so much debt already.

The beloved figure has been a crucial member of the squad over the past few seasons, finally earning his flowers for his goal-saving performances throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

Of course, there have always been rumours of his exit at Goodison Park, but as long as Everton are in the Premier League, it is difficult to see him leaving the club where he’s called his home for nearly eight years.

In other Everton news, the Toffees want to sign a “highly-rated” goalkeeper who was called up by his country last month.
